Lessons from the Tortoise

Dieting, in this country, seems to be more focused on quick, dramatic results, rather than a sustainable plan. So, if we don't see a 10-pound weight loss within the first couple of weeks, we feel like we've failed. Then, it's back to the drawing board, bag of chips and Mountain Dew in hand, to nurse our bruised ego and to look for the next weight-loss magic formula that will transform us into lean machines in just days with minimal education, effort, or thought required. Of course, judging by the obesity stats, in this country, this won't get us the results we want either, and the cycle just continues.

It's not about a quick fix. You need to start thinking of a plan that you can live with for, well, the rest of your life! Because this is what we're talking about here...a LIFE-LONG path filled with healthy habits. You may drift off to the side of the path (vacations, illness, injury, holidays, etc.), but it is still there, headed in the direction you had wanted to go, once you get back on it. Taking care of yourself is a long road that you will travel on for the rest of your life!

  1. I agree! Everyone wants a quick fix right away! Anything great takes a little hard work, but well worth it!
